Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Tafsir Notebook ("the Service") at tafsirnotebook.com, operated by Tafsir Notebook, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Description of service
Tafsir Notebook is a web application that allows users to annotate the Quran with personal notes at the word, ayah, and surah level, for personal, non-commercial use.
Beta access: The Service is currently available free of charge to a limited number of beta users. Following the beta period, continued access will require a paid subscription at the then-current pricing (currently planned at £4.99/month with a one-week free trial). Beta users will be given reasonable advance notice before any transition to paid access. We reserve the right to change pricing at any time, with notice provided to existing users.
3. Subscriptions & billing
When paid subscriptions are introduced after the beta period:
- •Subscriptions are billed monthly and renew automatically unless cancelled.
- •You may cancel your subscription at any time. Access continues until the end of the current billing period.
- •Free trial periods (where offered) automatically convert to paid subscriptions at the end of the trial unless cancelled beforehand.
- •Refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact us at salaam@tafsirnotebook.com within 14 days of a charge if you believe a refund is warranted.
- •All prices are in GBP and inclusive of any applicable VAT unless stated otherwise.
4. User accounts
- •You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account.
- •You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password.
- •You must be at least 13 years of age to use this Service.
- •One person or legal entity may not maintain more than one account.
- •You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- •Post content that is hateful, abusive, harassing, or defamatory.
- •Violate any applicable laws or regulations, including UK law.
- •Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or data.
- •Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service.
- •Use the Service for any commercial purpose without our written consent.
- •Introduce malware, viruses, or other malicious code into the Service.
6. Your content
You retain full ownership of the notes and annotations you create. By using the Service, you grant us a limited licence to store and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We will never share, sell, or use your personal annotations for any other purpose, including advertising or AI training.
7. Quran content
The Quran text and translations displayed in the Service are sourced from publicly available APIs (quran.com) and are used for educational and personal study purposes only. The English translation used is the Saheeh International translation.
8. Availability & changes
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes by email or in-app notice. We are not liable for any loss resulting from downtime or changes to the Service.
9. Account termination
You may delete your account at any time via Settings. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or secure. Your use of the Service is at your own risk.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Tafsir Notebook and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data or annotations. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud caused by negligence.
12. Consumer rights (UK)
If you are a consumer based in the United Kingdom, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable UK consumer protection legislation. You have the right to a 14-day cooling-off period for digital subscriptions purchased online, unless the digital content has been accessed.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify you by email or by posting a clear notice in the application at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to your rights as a consumer under applicable local law.
